Guidelines for preparing oral presentations

Audio-Visual Equipment

PC computers with audio playback capability and projectors, overhead transparency projectors and laser pointers will be provided in all sessions.  All other equipment is considered to be special equipment and will not be provided.  For example, Mac computers and 35-mm slide projectors will not be provided.

Projection

There are two possible locations for loading computer presentations into the projection PC: either in the lecture hall or in the designated Preview area.  The Preview area for loading is the preferred location – it will be available in the early morning for one hour before the first session and also during the breaks.  Authors loading the PC computer in the lecture hall should arrive there at least 30 minutes before the start of their session.  Authors should bring computer presentations on a CD or USB drive to load onto the provided computer.  Authors also have the option to connect their own laptops to the computer projector.  Assistance in loading presentations onto the computers will be provided.

Note that only PC format will be supported so authors using Macs must save their presentations for projection in PC format.  Also, authors who plan to play audio or visual files during their presentations should ensure that all the appropriate files are saved (Save with Pack-and-Go in PowerPoint).  Because of the large variability in Codecs, we strongly suggest that authors use their own laptops for such presentations.  Although authors may use the provided projection computer for such presentations, we can not guarantee that the audio and video files will be played correctly.

Time allocation for oral presentations

12 minutes presentation and 3 minutes discussion
