TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 9th, 2003

Visit to La Cartuja, Cathedral, Royal Chapel, and Alcaiceria. GROUP - MINIMUM OF 30 PERSONS
09.30 h. – departure from the meeting point (the Faculty of Medicine)
10.00 h. – guided visit to the monastery “La Cartuja”, Cathedral, Royal Chapel, and Alcaiceria
Construction of the Monastery “La Cartuja” was begun in 1506 and work continued for three centuries. It is a marvellous representation of Spanish Baroque at its best. The Cathedral is considered the first Renaissance church in Spain and houses one of the finest collections of Flemish-school paintings. The Royal Chapel, adjacent to the Cathedral, was erected by order of the Catholic Monarchs in order to install their tombs.
In the pedestrian centre of the city, a visit to the Cathedral and Royal Chapel lasts a maximum of 2 hours. Also interesting is a walk through the Alcaiceria, the former silk market, which today boasts a myriad of small handicraft shops, plus the “Corral del Carbon”, one of the oldest monuments in Granada – a former boarding house for Arab merchants and storage hold for merchandise and coal, hence the name “Carbon” which means coal.
The price is 27 €
