Dear colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee it is our honour and pleasure to invite you to the 49th Workshop on Inner Ear Biology (IEB), which will take place from 30 September to 02 October 2012 in Tübingen, Germany, preceded by a Symposium on 29 September at the same location.

The IEB Workshops are organized annually throughout academic centres in Europe with the objective of offering an international platform for scientific exchange on the latest developments in the field of inner ear biology.

The Workshops are forum for multidisciplinary interaction between basic research scientists and clinicians working at the genetic, molecular, cellular, and whole-organ levels. The Symposium, with presentations from invited speakers, will highlight the near-future application of basic research to diagnosis and therapy of sensorineural hearing loss.

On behalf of all those involved, we would like to encourage you and your colleagues to participate actively in the Workshop by submitting an Abstract for an oral or a poster presentation.

During the 44th Inner Ear Biology Workshop a number of IMPORTANT decisions were made :

1. The registration fees, established for the first time during the 43th workshop at MontPelier, remain as 150 Euros for participants and something less for students.

2. To guarantee that the IEB traditions are maintained over the years it was decided to form a steering comittee (Board) which will facilitate the duties of each organizer. Jean-Luc Puel was elected as the coordinator of the board and he will announce its structure duting the 45th meeting at Ferrara.

3. The future of this web site is at serious risk, since the organizers cannot fund its yearly expenses (1000 Euros). The web site issue will be discussed and hopefuly resolved at the forthcoming Ferrara meeting.

On behalf of the Tubingen organizing committee, (Tony Gummer):

Dear Colleagues,

Hearing Research has offered to publish manuscripts of oral and poster presentations from the Inner Ear Biology Symposium and Workshop 2005 in a special issue. This is a very generous offer, and we would encourage participants to contribute. Please note that this is a free offer, and that it is the policy of the organizing committee that every participant is free to submit his/her work to any journal he/she chooses.

Please submit manuscripts to Hearing Research mentioning that it was partly or fully presented at the IEB Symposium and Workshop in Tübingen. Manuscripts will be subjected to the usual peer-review process. Please consult an issue of Hearing Research or the Hearing Research website http://ees.elsevier.com/heares/ for instructions for authors.

If enough manuscripts are accepted (15 minimum), they will be published in a special issue of Hearing Research. If less than 15 manuscripts are accepted, they will be published in regular issues of Hearing Research.

The deadline for submission is 28 February 2006.

The paper should contain non-published original research.

The best paper will be selected by a jury of at least three experts before the Workshop.

Jury members shall not belong to the same department of any of the entrants.

Members of the local organizing committee will not be part of the jury; they will cast the decisive vote should the jury not be able to arrive at a majority decision.

An award will not be made if in the opinion of the jury members it was not justified by the quality of the science.

The winner will present his work as a lecture at the Workshop.

The Award will consist of a plaque and a Euro 1,000 prize (charged to the Workshop).

Manuscript in extenso must be e-mailed to the Workshop Secretariat before 17. May, 2005.

The manuscript must be the entrant's own research. When the entrant is not the sole author, a statement of consent and relative contributions must be provided with submission of the manuscript.

We have received a number of requests regarding the SEARCH function we have in the site. The terms you can search should be related to the contents of this site ONLY. The search procedure does not SEARCH the web , but it is limited to the index of the words contained in the web pages of the IEB site. For example you cannot search for contents related to the Li?e site. The searchable index is updated automatically at the end of each month. In this context, if we place on our web pages some new information on the 15th of the month, we will not be able to trace it via a SEARCH query until the fist day of the next month.

May I ask you to give us the topic and a brief title (if you wish) of your future presentation in Li?e. The topics could be taken in the following list, however new topics could be added if enough abstracts fit them.

Themes and topics:

  • 1. Development and regeneration

  • 2. Ototoxicity:apoptosis and cell death

  • 3. Otoprotection

  • 4. Electrophysiology of cochlea and auditory pathways

  • 5. Clinical otorhinolaryngology

  • 6. Genetic: human hereditary deafness

  • 7. Cell signalling, ionic channels and receptors

  • 8. Central and peripheral auditory morphology

11-02-2002

As you might know already, from 2001 every IEB meeting will have a separate space in the IEB web structure and we will try to enrich your information about the future IEB activities by presenting early announcements / invitations from the local organizers. We present a salutation from the Organizer of the next meeting in Liege, Dr. Philippe Lefebvre.

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 39th Inner Ear Biology Meeting, I would like to invite you to Li?e next September. The workshops have always had a very special character, which it has been possible to preserve over the years. This meeting in Li?e will be organized in the Spirit of the Founders of the workshop. The main purpose was and still is to provide the opportunity for an open exchange of ideas with open, friendly and, if necessary, hard discussion. In this way, people get to know each other and become friends, even if they have differing opinions. That is the reason why we will try to create the conditions of excellent scientific exchanges in a state of the art "Palais des Congr?" in Li?e and of socializing after the scientific session. The congress palace of Li?e is situated in the center of the city and has a nice view on the river. On the Saturday, we have organized a satellite symposium on "advanced treatment of inner ear disorders" which is sponsored by the Royal ENT Society of Belgium. This symposium will be the link between the basic research on the future daily medical practice. The attendance to meeting is free of charge as usual. Every day, we will have a tutorial lecture on a selected topic of a general interest, as this was appreciated last year in Rome.
The social program will include a cruise on the river followed by a diner in an ancient church and a gala diner in a castle. Finally as customary, we will have a family excursion to Brugge, also called the Venice of the North. To get a glimpse at the program, please visit our website: www.uia.ac.be/ieb2002/.

I hope that you will join us in Li?e from September 7th to 10th, 2002 and please, if you have any question, contact us at + 32 43665905

Sincerely yours,

Philippe Lefebvre
Chairman of the Organizing Committee
